Another Baby

Pulling into the hospital parking lot on Sunday to pick up a prescription from the pharmacy, Sadie declares:

"Mommy, I don't want another baby."

Apparently she thinks when someone wants a baby, they just swing by the hospital and pick one up. This makes me smile (and laugh really, really hard).

I want to get Braden...

Tonight while finishing Sadie's smiley face chart with her for the week, we figured out that she had gotten enough smiley faces for her reward this week. The conversation went like this:

Me: "Count your smiley faces, Sadie."

Sadie: "One, two, three.....sixteen, eighteen, seventeen, nineteen!!" (out of order, but ended on the right number)

Me: "You got 19!! Is 19 more than 17?" (17 was the goal)

Sadie: "Yes!! We get to go to Toys R Us when I wake up to pick out a new toy!"

Me: "Yep, you do!! Good job, Sis! I'm so proud of you."

Sadie: "Mommy, when we go to Babies R Us tomorrow when I wake up, I want to pick out a water gun for Braden. Because I have a water gun but he doesn't have one."

Me: (fighting back tears) "Sadie, that is so nice of you to want to pick out something for B!!"

Oh my goodness, this girl never ceases to amaze me!! I love her and hope she holds on to her sweetness for forever!!!

I Don't Have Hands

Sadie's room was seriously disastrous the other day. Toys everywhere. The conversation went like this:

Me: "Sadie, you need to help me pick up your toys."

Sadie: "Why?"

Me: "Because it is so messy in here that you can't even walk through your room and that's not how we want to keep things." (Too much information for a 3 1/2 year old, I know. That's how I roll. Always giving more information than necessary.)

Sadie: (As she's literally sitting on her hands watching ME pick up the toys) "But I don't have any hands."

Me: "Oh, I guess that means you can't play with your toys either because if you don't have hands to help pick up, that must mean you don't have hands to play with toys either".

Sadie: (Brief pause) "I do have hands. I just don't want to pick up my toys."

Me: (unspoken thoughts) "Ahhh, so the truth comes out!! I hope it's always this easy to get to the bottom of things with The Girl!"

You can just take another picture...

So I was wanting to get a picture of me and the Girl on my phone today. Here's how the conversation went:

Me: "Sadie, come here, let's take a picture."

Sadie: "Okay!!"

Me: (shocked that one ask was all it took, and holding the camera/phone at arms length) "okay, look right here and smile!!"

Sadie: "Cheese"

Me: (after reviewing the photo and not really liking how I look) "I look funny, let's take another one."

Sadie: "Cheese"

Me: (after reviewing the new photo) "hmmm."

Sadie: "Mom, if you think you look funny, you can just take another picture all by yourself. I don't look funny. I don't look funny, right mom?"

Me: (after picking myself up off the floor and wiping the tears away) "no, Honey, you don't look funny - I love you!!!"

How Does a Baby Get in There?

Sadie has been asking a lot of "why" questions the past few days, so I knew it was going to happen. It was just a matter of time. This is the conversation we had earlier today:

Sadie: "Mom, was your belly big when you had a baby in there?"

Me: Yes.

Sadie: Why?

Me: Because there was a baby in there.

Sadie: How does the baby get in there, in your belly?

Me: God puts it there.

Sadie: How does he put it there?

Me: You'll have to ask your dad when he gets home.

Sadie: We can just ask God.

Me: We sure can!

Sadie: Why isn't your belly big anymore?

So, she is already asking the tough questions, but at least she followed it up with a compliment!

I Will Take Care of You

While we were in Kansas City helping Mimi recover from a recent surgery this is the conversation Sadie had with her:

Sadie: "Mimi, are you going to come visit us in California next time?"

Mimi: "When I get to feeling better, I will come and visit you."

Sadie: "You can just get on an airplane and come to our house and I will take care of you."

Awww, sooo sweet - I hope the sweetness lasts forever!

Do I Have 5 Minutes?

I was talking to my mom on the phone the other day and I was needing to let her go because it was almost naptime. Not wanting Sadie to pick up on that fact (to try to avoid a fit), I decided to spell what was impending. The conversation went like this:

Me: "Okay, Mom, I'm gonna have to let you go. (Spelling) S-A-D-I-E needs to N-A-P."

Sadie: "Momma, do I have 5 minutes?"

Well, in trying to avoid a situation, I figured out that my little girl can now understand the spelling of her name and nap. I want a smart child, I really do, but geesh - can't I just have a simple conversation anymore?? :D
